Terms and conditions of use
Terms and conditions of use
Website "Edicola Digitale — La Sicilia"
Last updated: September 24, 2026 — Version 1.0
1. Introduction and acceptance of the terms
These Terms and Conditions of Use (the "Terms") govern the use of the La Sicilia Digital Newsstand website (the "Site"), made available by La Sicilia Investimenti S.p.A., with registered office at Viale Vittorio Veneto, 172 – 95127 Catania (CT), Italy (the "Controller" or "Publisher").
By browsing the Site, creating an account or making a purchase, the user (the "User") declares to have read, understood and fully accepted these Terms, as well as the Privacy Policy, which forms an integral part of them. If the User does not intend to accept the Terms, they must refrain from using the Site.
2. Access requirements and minimum age
Creating an account and making purchases on the Site are allowed to users who are at least [minimum age to be confirmed] years old. Minors who have reached the indicated minimum age but not the age of majority may use the Site only with the consent of the holder of parental responsibility.
To use the Site, an up-to-date browser with JavaScript and technical cookies enabled is sufficient: without them, access to the account and reading the editions are not possible.
3. Services offered by the Site
Among other things, the Site allows:
- browsing the catalog of the digital editions of the newspaper La Sicilia: the recent editions and the complete archive, filterable by date;
- reading the digital editions, browsable through the integrated reader provided by PressReader;
- creating a personal account, with email and password or with Google or Apple;
- access to the editions included in the "La Sicilia+" subscription, for Users who hold one;
- buying single digital editions;
- managing the personal area: profile details, profile photo, password, purchased editions and transaction history.
Subscriptions are not purchased on the Site but on the lasicilia.it website or in the "La Sicilia: News & Edicola" app; support is provided through the support center support.lasicilia.it. These platforms may be subject to additional terms of their own.
4. Registration and account
4.1 Creating the account
Creating an account requires entering first name, last name, date of birth, gender, city, email address and password (at least 8 characters), as well as the mandatory acknowledgment of the Privacy Policy and the acceptance of these Terms. The User may also optionally consent to receiving marketing communications.
As an alternative to traditional registration, the User can sign in with "Sign in with Google" or "Sign in with Apple".
The account is the same across all La Sicilia channels: with the same credentials the User accesses the Site and the app, and finds the same subscriptions and the same purchased editions.
4.2 Browsing without an account
The catalog of editions can be browsed without an account. Reading the editions and making purchases, on the other hand, require logging in with a registered account.
4.3 Password recovery
A User who has forgotten their password can request a reset from the "Forgot your password" page: they will receive at the account's email address the instructions to choose a new one. The feature does not apply to accounts that sign in with Google or Apple, whose authentication is managed by the respective provider.
4.4 Editing and deleting the account
The User can edit their profile details (first name, last name, date of birth, gender, city, profile photo) at any time and, for accounts with a password, the password itself, from the personal area of the Site.
Permanent deletion of the account can be requested from the "La Sicilia: News & Edicola" app or by writing to the contact addresses indicated in Section 13. Deletion entails the loss of access to the content and features associated with the account, including purchased editions. For the effects of deletion on active subscriptions, see Section 6.
4.5 Session
After logging in, the session remains active on the browser used until it expires or until the User logs out of the account ("Log out"). A User on a shared device must log out of the account at the end of use.
5. Editorial content and intellectual property
All content made available through the Site (digital editions, articles, photographs, trademarks, logos, graphics) is owned by La Sicilia Investimenti S.p.A. or its respective licensors and is protected by intellectual property and copyright law.
Access to an edition, by subscription or purchased individually, grants the User a personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable license to read it through the Site, for private and non-commercial use. The reproduction, distribution, communication to the public or modification of the content, in whole or in part, is prohibited without the prior written authorization of the Controller, except for the exceptions provided for by law (e.g. quotation for purposes of criticism or discussion).
6. Purchases, subscriptions and digital newsstand
6.1 Available products
On the Site it is possible to buy single digital editions ("single edition"), at the price shown next to each edition before purchase. "La Sicilia+" subscriptions purchased on lasicilia.it or in the app give access to the editions on the Site as well, with the same account.
6.2 Payment
Payment takes place on a checkout page hosted by RevenueCat, which opens in a new browser tab; payment processing is entrusted to Stripe. The Controller does not collect or store the User's payment card data or data of other payment instruments: such data is processed exclusively by these providers according to their respective terms.
An edition already owned is not charged a second time: the Site opens the reader directly.
6.3 Unlocking the edition
The purchased edition is unlocked as soon as the payment is confirmed by the subscription management system; this normally happens within moments, but may take a few minutes. While waiting, the Site shows the status of the purchase and opens the reader automatically as soon as the edition is available. Should the edition not be unlocked after payment, the User can contact the support center.
We recommend not starting purchases of different editions at the same time: in that case only the last edition for which payment was started might be assigned to the account.
6.4 Right of withdrawal
The digital edition is digital content supplied on a non-tangible medium, whose supply begins with the unlocking of the edition immediately after payment. Pursuant to Art. 59(1)(o) of the Italian Consumer Code, by starting the purchase the User consents to immediate performance and acknowledges the loss of the right of withdrawal. [Clause to be verified with legal counsel, also with regard to the collection of express consent in the purchase flow.]
6.5 Renewal and cancellation of subscriptions
Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled; the User cancels on the platform where the subscription was purchased (lasicilia.it, Apple App Store or Google Play), according to the methods and timing it provides. Deleting the account on the Site does not automatically cancel a subscription purchased through the stores.
6.6 Source of truth for access
The right to read an edition (active subscription or purchased edition) is determined on the basis of the orders recorded with the subscription management provider (VirtualNewspaper), including those made outside the Site.
6.7 Digital newsstand (PressReader)
Reading the editions is provided through PressReader's technical infrastructure (catalog, content and reader). Each time an edition is opened, the Site issues the reader a temporary access authorization, tied to the User's account; the reader works within the Site and may use browser technologies of its own, as described in the Privacy Policy.
6.8 Transaction history
The User can view the purchased editions and the history of their purchases and subscriptions from the personal area of the Site.
7. Third-party links and services
The Site may contain links to third-party websites or services (e.g. lasicilia.it, the support center, the Apple and Google stores, La Sicilia's social profiles), which open in a new tab. The Controller has no control over these sites and services and declines all responsibility for their content, the privacy practices they adopt or any damage resulting from their use.
8. User obligations and prohibited uses
When using the Site, the User undertakes to:
- provide truthful, up-to-date and complete information when registering and using the account;
- keep their login credentials confidential and not allow third parties to use them, nor share access to the editions;
- not use the Site for unlawful or fraudulent purposes or purposes that infringe the rights of third parties;
- not attempt to gain unauthorized access to the IT systems of the Controller or its providers, nor to circumvent the measures that regulate access to the editions;
- not use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to extract content from the Site without authorization;
- not download, reproduce, redistribute or commercially exploit the editions and editorial content without authorization, except as provided for in Section 5.
9. Limitation of liability
The Controller undertakes to ensure, as far as reasonably possible, the continuity and correctness of the service, without however being able to guarantee that the Site is always free from errors, interruptions or malfunctions, also due to external factors (e.g. the User's connectivity, browser compatibility, availability of third-party services such as PressReader, RevenueCat, Stripe, Google and Apple).
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Controller is not liable for indirect damages, loss of data or loss of profit resulting from the use of or inability to use the Site, except in cases of willful misconduct or gross negligence. The liability of the Controller that cannot be excluded or limited by law (e.g. for consumer protection) remains unaffected.
[Clause to be calibrated with legal counsel based on the qualification of the User as a consumer under the Italian Consumer Code, which limits the validity of unilateral exemption clauses.]
10. Suspension and termination of the service
The Controller reserves the right to suspend, limit or discontinue, in whole or in part, temporarily or permanently, the Site or individual features, for technical, maintenance or security reasons, with notice where reasonably possible.
The Controller also reserves the right to suspend or deactivate a User's account in the event of a breach of these Terms, without prejudice to the User's right to enjoy, where applicable, any services already paid for until their natural expiry, unless otherwise provided by law.
11. Changes to the terms
The Controller reserves the right to change these Terms at any time. Changes will be published on this page, with the date of the last update, and possibly communicated to Users by email or other appropriate channels; they will take effect from the date indicated. Continued use of the Site after the changes are published constitutes acceptance of them.
12. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by Italian law. [Competent court to be confirmed with legal counsel — for Users who qualify as consumers, the court of the consumer's place of residence or domicile applies mandatorily under the Italian Consumer Code; in other cases the Court of Catania is presumptively proposed, unless otherwise indicated.]
